FOX's medical drama Doc is adding a familiar and respected face to its cast.

Blair Underwood has officially joined the series in a major role for Season 3, bringing his acclaimed presence to the growing hospital drama.

While specific details about his character are still under wraps, we do know that he plays Dr. Ben Grant, "a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego that somehow outpaces even his resume. A once-in-a-generation talent with the swagger to match, he doesn't just save lives — he owns the OR. Impossibly magnetic and even more confident, he's never not been the smartest person in the room… until he meets Dr. Amy Larsen. Almost instantly, their approaches clash, egos collide, and sparks fly like Westside has never seen. Together, their brilliance is unmatched —as long as they can survive each other."

The news, first reported by Variety, comes following the announcement that the popular series has been renewed for a third season. The character’s storyline will intersect with several key characters, introducing new conflicts, alliances, and emotional stakes as the season progresses. He is set to make his first appearance in the season two finale.

Underwood, who currently stars in Youngblood (you can catch our interview with the Director and stars HERE), is widely known for his work across television, film, and theater, with a career spanning decades of memorable performances. His addition to Doc signals an exciting new chapter for the FOX series as it continues to build momentum with viewers.

Catch the Season 2 finale of Doc on April 14 and don't miss Season 3 when it debuts later this season with new episodes on Fox. You can stream episodes on Hulu/Disney+ the day after they air.
