After a two-year hiatus, the sophomore season of "The Buccaneers," Apple TV+'s highly acclaimed period drama, returned on June 18. The series, created by Katherine Jakeways and based on the unfinished novel of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton, follows five ambitious women, Nan St. George, her sister, and friends, as they traveled from America during the debutante season to London's elite social circle in pursuit of love and romance. Set in the Gilded Age of the 1870s, the women experience vibrant cultural clashes with London's elite, and this season promises even more romance, drama, intrigue, and adventure.

In the first season of "The Buccaneers," a group of fun-loving young American girls exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s…setting hearts racing and kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash. Now the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders - England is their home. In fact they're practically running the place. Nan is the Duchess of Tintagel, the most influential woman in the country. Conchita is Lady Brightlingsea, heroine to a wave of young American heiresses. And Jinny is on every front-page, wanted for the kidnap of her unborn child. All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births and deaths... themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we're in for a veritable feast.

The series features a fantastic cast, with the core members from Season 1 returning. Kristine Froseth as Nan, Imogen Waterhouse as Jinny, Alisha Boe as Conchita, and Aubri Ibrag and Josie Totah as sisters Lizzy and Mabel. Exciting new additions to this season include Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, Greg Wise, Jacob Ifan, Grace Ambrose, and Maria Almeida.

The new season picks up where Season 1 left off, with Nan now married to Theo, the Duke of Tintagel, to save Jinny from her abusive marriage despite Nan's lingering feelings for Guy. Meanwhile, Lizzy embarks on a new romantic journey, Mabel is focused on navigating her relationship challenges, and Conchita dedicates herself to managing her family's finances.

Season 2 promises plenty of drama, with romance once again at the forefront with new challenges complicating their lives further. The sweeping landscapes, lavish costume designs, and stunning cinematography continue to serve as the backdrop for this entertaining series. Our heroines will embark on different and compelling journeys, offering an immersive experience of female empowerment, scandal, and a ton of secrets.

The first episode of The Buccaneers is streaming now on Apple TV+, with new episodes released weekly through its season finale on August 6.
