Dragons are airborne, alliances are broken, and the cost of power is about to hit everyone at once

“And so, Queen Rhaenyra climbed the steps and seated herself on the Iron Throne. Legend has it that as she left the hall later, blood trickled down her legs and hands, proving the Iron Throne had spurned her. Nonsense. It's a chair made of steel blades. Rhaenyra had wanted it all her life and had sacrificed two sons for it. She likely gripped the damn thing too tight.” - Dance of the Dragons

Let’s be very clear: the throne didn’t reject her, the throne just did what it always does - cut anybody bold enough to sit in it.

By the end of House of the Dragon Season 2, things were extremely messy and in the middle of all that chaos, Alicent Hightower really pulled up to Dragonstone like, “hey girl… what if we just… ended this?”

No guards. No drama. Just vibes and a wild offer.

She basically hands Rhaenyra Targaryen the keys to the Red Keep - doors unlocked, path cleared, go ahead and come take what’s yours. But here’s the part that sticks: she knows what comes with that.

Rhaenyra wants Aegon’s head. Not a negotiation. Not a maybe. A requirement.

And Alicent doesn’t even flinch.

That is where we’re starting Season 3.

These are the consequences for everybody and their dragon.

And the people carrying all that chaos, the ones we trust to wreck us emotionally are still here. Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and Olivia Cooke are back, right where we left them - tired, committed, and making decisions that are about to ruin lives.

Meanwhile, the cast is stacking up. Enter Rhys Ifans, James Norton, Abubakar Salim, and Dan Fogler because clearly, the war needed fresh faces to stress us all the heck out.

Season 2 drew the lines. Season 3 is collecting on all of it.

The Trailer: Dragons, Vengeance, and Zero Restraint

All hail Queen Rhaenyra… but let’s not get comfortable. Thrones in House of the Dragon come with an expiration date and a body count.

After two long years, HBO said “y’all ready?” and dropped a teaser that wastes zero time reminding us: peace was never part of the plan.

We open with Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) in Rhaenyra’s ear like a toxic motivational speaker:

“You now have a power no man has ever wielded…”

Sir… what are you actually talking about? Because historically, every time a Targaryen man says something like that, things go left immediately.

Cut to dragons in the sky, war councils, and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) plotting like she already knows there’s no turning back. And that’s the thing, the power might be hers, but the cost? Oh, it’s compounding.

Then here comes Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), calm as ever, basically reading the fine print of the crown:

“You will do things that your heart would have recoiled from…”

Translation: you’re about to become somebody you don’t even recognize. And lowkey, she’s speaking from experience.

Meanwhile, the family drama is fully unhinged.

We get Vhagar touching down like a natural disaster, and a crispy fried Aemond Targaryen still moving like vengeance is a personality trait.

This man really said “I’ll handle my brother” and meant it because let’s not forget, he already turned Aegon II Targaryen into a cautionary tale at Rook’s Rest. Family therapy? Never heard of her.

And Aegon? Burned, bitter, and somewhere plotting his comeback like a villain in the third act.

Then we get that shot - Rhaenyra staring into the fire, looking like she’s already mourning what she’s about to do.

“Look to the sky. Doom and ruin surround us. We’ll become beasts before our end.” — Criston Cole

Not “might.” Not “could.” Will.

Just in case you thought we were getting a breather, quick cuts of swords clashing, dragons going full flamethrower mode, bodies dropping, and Helaena giving birth right in the middle of all this chaos because, of course, she is.

The timing is horrendous and the symbolism is loud.

Then Rhaenyra closes it out with:

“There will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule.”

At what cost? Because every time somebody in this universe starts talking about destiny, somebody else ends up dead.

Season 3 is officially the penultimate chapter, and showrunner Ryan Condal is not dragging this out. After two seasons, we are now in full Dance of the Dragons mode. No more buildup, just war.

You can watch the fire breathing trailer here:

House of The Dragon, Season 3 premeirs on June 21. The eight-episode season will air new episodes weekly, leading up to the season finale on August 9.

So be honest, are we team Black or Team Green?
