HBO is pulling back the curtain on one of the most influential artists of all time. The network has officially released the teaser for JAŸ-Z IN 8, a brand-new original eight-part documentary event that promises to offer an unfiltered look into the mind, music, and legacy of hip-hop icon Jay-Z.
Directed by legendary producer Rick Rubin, the creative force behind groundbreaking work across genres, JAŸ-Z IN 8 will debut this fall on HBO and stream on HBO Max in the U.S. The documentary series centers on a powerful one-on-one conversation between Rubin and Jay-Z, diving deep into the artist’s catalog, lyrical genius, personal journey, and the experiences that shaped him into a global cultural powerhouse. From Brooklyn street corners to boardrooms, the series looks set to unpack the evolution of Shawn Carter—not just as a rapper, but as a visionary.
Known for his stripped-down and deeply introspective interview style, Rubin’s approach could make JAŸ-Z IN 8 one of the most revealing portraits of Jay-Z ever put on screen. The teaser hints at a rare exploration of the creative process behind some of hip-hop’s most defining records.
The project also boasts heavyweight executive producers, including Jay-Z himself, Academy Award-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya, and Rick Rubin. Produced under HBO Documentary Films and Rubin’s Tetragrammaton banner, the series is produced by Leila Mattimore and David Rohde.
