FX’s long-running comedy phenomenon It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has officially returned for its highly anticipated 18th season, bringing Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee and Frank back together for another round of wildly inappropriate schemes, questionable decisions and the kind of chaotic adventures that have made the series one of television’s most enduring comedies.

Created by Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day, Season 18 kicked off on August 17 with its first two episodes, immediately reminding fans why the Gang remains one of TV’s most dysfunctional and entertaining groups of friends. The new season continues the series’ signature brand of sharp, irreverent comedy while finding plenty of new ways to put its characters through the wringer.

Returning to the madness are Charlie Day as Charlie Kelly, Rob McElhenney as Mac, Glenn Howerton as Dennis Reynolds, Kaitlin Olson as Dee Reynolds and Danny DeVito as Frank Reynolds. Together, they once again turn everyday problems into spectacular disasters, proving that no situation is ever too ridiculous for the Gang to make considerably worse.

Season 18 finds the group confronting everything from questionable inheritances and the realities of homelessness to workplace automation, changing social attitudes and the never ending battle between the haves and have-nots. And because this is Sunny, even seemingly ordinary circumstances have a way of spiraling completely out of control.

The new episodes also take the Gang into some particularly unpredictable territory. Conspiracy theories, shifting cultural attitudes, neurodivergence, drinking and the changing world around them all become targets for the show's trademark comedic treatment. Meanwhile, the Gang finds itself crossing paths with nerds, LARPers and the notoriously troublesome McPoyle family during a Renaissance Faire adventure that promises another memorable season in the series’ long history of bad ideas.

There is even an attempt to improve the Gang’s reputation within the Philadelphia community by getting involved with a Little League team. Naturally anyone familiar with It’s Always Sunny knows that the road from good intentions to complete disaster is usually very, very short.

The season is also expected to deliver plenty of guest stars, unexpected appearances and nods to Philadelphia culture, adding another layer of fun for longtime viewers. The result is a season that feels firmly rooted in the world fans know while continuing to find new corners of that world for the Gang to completely destroy.

The Gang may be getting older, but apparently nobody told them they were supposed to grow up.

New episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18 premiere weekly on Mondays at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET on FX, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu and Disney+.
