Ryan Murphy has never been afraid to push television into uncomfortable, provocative territory, and his newest FX drama, The Shards, premieres tonight with its first two episodes on FX and streaming on FX on Hulu.

The Shards arrives with beautiful people, dangerous secrets, simmering sexual tension, psychological thrills, and a mystery that threatens to consume everyone caught in its web. Based on Bret Easton Ellis' acclaimed bestselling novel, The Shards transports viewers to the world of 1980s Los Angeles, where privilege, excess, and paranoia collide beneath the polished exterior of an elite prep school. The series follows Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring writer and keenly observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel with the arrival of a mysterious and magnetic new student, Robert Mallory (Homer Gere). Transferring in just before his senior year, Robert’s appearance coincides with the growing terror of The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city.
