From groundbreaking representation and enduring legacy to longevity and character evolution, Karla Mosley and Bryton James reflect on the cultural impact of Beyond the Gates, daytime television's biggest crossover event of the year, and what the future holds for more soap opera crossovers between the two soaps.

Daytime television is gearing up for one of its most ambitious and exciting moments in recent memory, as stars from The Young and the Restless crossover into the luxurious world of Beyond the Gates. At the center of this landmark event are two of Daytime's most beloved veterans: Karla Mosley, who plays Dani Dupree on Beyond the Gates, and Bryton James, who plays Devon Hamilton on The Young and the Restless.
Both stars will share the screen in a crossover event featuring many of YR's alums, led by Eric Braeden, who portrays the iconic Victor Newman. Alongside Victor, Peter Bergman (Jack), Susan Walters (Diane), Michael Mealor (Kyle), Bryton James (Devon), and Melissa Ordway (Abby) kick off the event on Tuesday, June 9, on Beyond The Gates when the YR alums attend a gala fundraiser for Congressman Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon). Adding to the drama, a tornado will sweep through at that exact moment, threatening the lives of everyone.

Mosley, who has long been a familiar face in Daytime, first gained recognition on Guiding Light and later made history on The Bold and the Beautiful. She is now at the forefront of television history as Dani Dupree in CBS' groundbreaking drama Beyond the Gates. As one of the central figures in the first hour long daytime soap centered on a wealthy Black family, Dani has quickly become a fan favorite thanks to her fierce personality, emotional vulnerability, and unapologetic glamour.
For over two decades, James has portrayed Devon Hamilton on The Young and the Restless, marking a significant milestone that speaks not only to his talent but also to the character's enduring popularity. Viewers have watched Devon's transformation from a troubled teenager into one of Genoa City's most influential power players. Now, those worlds are set to collide in the highly anticipated crossover event that brings Genoa City's elite into the opulent and drama filled community of Fairmont Crest.
Reel Perspectives sat down with Mosley and James ahead of the anticipated crossover event, and both stars expressed their excitement about the opportunity for their worlds to collide, describing the energy on set as "electric."
James, who first started on YR at age 17, shared that it was, single-handedly, the biggest event he's been a part of. He will be celebrating twenty-two years on the show this year and reflected on the milestone journey, which he attributes to the incredible support of the incomparable Victoria Rowell and Jack Smith, the head writer at the time.
James made waves when he first appeared in Fairmont Crest back in August 2025. He fondly recalled, "It was like homecoming sharing the screen again with Karla." Karla, of course, played Maya Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful and did a brief stint as Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless.
Karla also reflected on her start in Daytime, from her early days on Guiding Light to the "fire cracker" Dani Dupree she now plays on BTG. The seasoned veteran had nothing but gratitude for the opportunity to play such a complex character, stating, "it's the gift that keeps on giving," noting that the crossover event has exceeded expectations due to the "trauma bonding" shared between the 2 casts. When asked if there was potential for more crossover events, both actors were eager to share what was unfolding behind the scenes to make future collaborations happen.
For fans of both series, the possibilities are endless. This event is more than a crossover, it's a celebration of the soap genre itself. Historically, daytime crossovers have always generated excitement, but this event carries additional significance. It symbolizes CBS's investment and highlights Beyond the Gates' growing success, while bridging the gap between generations of viewers who have spent decades following the Newman, Abbott, and Winters dynasties and those just discovering the world of Fairmont Crest.
When powerful families, ambitious business moguls, and larger than life personalities occupy the same zip code, chaos is inevitable. Expect scandal. Expect shocking confrontations. Expect salacious secrets. Expect unexpected alliances. And most of all, expect to see some of daytime television's most beloved characters mixing it up in a crossover event that could become one of the most talked about moments in soap opera history.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays at 2 p.m. EST on CBS and is available to stream on Paramount+.
