(Spoilers Ahead)

Mr. Throwback is Peacock's newest mockumentary, debuting on August 8. The series follows Danny, a down-on-his-luck memorabilia salesman who hopes to find redemption by reconciling with his former childhood teammate Stephen Curry (yes, that Stephen Curry, NBA basketball phenom who plays for the Golden State Warriors).

Mr. Throwback was written by David Caspe, Daniel Libman, and Matthew Libman. Directed by David Wain, the six-episode series stars Adam Pally as Danny, Ayden Mayeri as Samantha, Ego Nwodim as Kimberly, and Stephen Curry as himself.

Mr. Throwback hilariously tackles fame, shame, unfulfilled dreams, and untapped potential with self-awareness and genuine feel-good moments. Danny Grossman, "the Jewish Jordan," was poised for greatness. One of the country's most promising 6th-grade basketball players would travel the path of NBA legends, but there was one small problem. Danny's father, Mitch (Tracy Letts), orchestrated a lie that he is 15, not 12, making him two years older than the kids on his team, including Steph Curry. This ended his basketball career and effectively ostracized him both personally and professionally.

Twenty-five years later, Danny, now a grown man, owns a memorabilia store," Mr. Throwback," in Chicago, and he is drowning in self-pity (and insurmountable debt) over what could have been. Between his strained relationship with his daughter, Charlie (Layla Scalisi), failed marriage with his ex-wife, Samantha (Ayden Mayeri), and owing ninety thousand dollars in debt, he needs cash and lots of it. Danny decides to reconnect with Stephen Curry and their former childhood friend Kimberly, who now runs Steph's media company, "Curry Up And Wait." After they reconnect, Danny gets caught up in another lie, and you can guess where this is going. The lie soon spirals out of control, and Danny once again finds himself at the center of another scandal.

Mr. Throwback is genuinely funny and has a ton of laugh-out-loud moments. Danny's struggles with unfulfilled potential and the struggle to find redemption are stories many can relate to. Stephen Curry, playing a fictionalized version of himself in his scripted TV Debut, has impressive comedic timing that rivals his talented skills on the court.

When discussing Steph Curry and the possibility of more seasons, Pally told Variety, "Steph has an offbeat sense of humor. We wouldn't be here if he didn't like what we did," Pally says. We're excited to really push it and see what we can do next. The fact that a viewer can say, 'Can you even do more after all that?' That means we can definitely do more."
