Samuel L. Jackson is getting ready to take on a whole new kind of kingpin.
The iconic actor is stepping into the television spotlight as the star of Frisco King, the highly anticipated Tulsa King spinoff coming to Paramount+. Created by Oscar® nominee Taylor Sheridan, the eight-episode drama expands the Tulsa King universe while putting one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars front and center in his first television series.
Jackson stars as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a New Orleans born hitman with deep connections to the New York mob and a complicated history with Dwight Manfredi, played by Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King. But when Lee refuses an assignment to kill Dwight, the decision sends his life in an entirely different direction.
Rather than continue down the familiar path of violence and loyalty to the mob, Lee heads to Frisco, Texas, determined to build a new life — and a new enterprise. Of course, walking away from the life you know is one thing. Staying out of trouble is another.
If Tulsa King has taught viewers anything, it is that leaving the criminal underworld rarely means the criminal underworld leaves you alone. Frisco King was previously known as NOLA King, a title that reflected Lee’s New Orleans roots. The new title shifts the spotlight to Frisco, Texas, where Lee will attempt to establish himself while navigating the challenges that come with reinventing a life built around crime.
Fans of Tulsa King have already gotten an introduction to Jackson’s character. Russell Lee Washington Jr., known as Lee, appears in the Season 3 episodes “Dead Weight” and “Jesus Lizard,” where he crosses paths with Dwight after the two become friends while serving time in federal prison. Frisco King takes that introduction and turns Lee’s story into a new chapter of the Sheridan universe.
For Jackson, the series marks a major television milestone. The legendary actor has built a career spanning some of Hollywood’s biggest films, from Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park and Shaft to Star Wars, Snakes on a Plane, Django Unchained, Kingsman: The Secret Service and his unforgettable portrayal of Nick Fury throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, after decades of commanding the big screen, Jackson is making television the main event.
And this isn't simply another crime drama. With Sheridan writing all eight episodes of Season 1, Frisco King promises to bring the creator’s signature blend of crime, power, complicated characters and unexpected alliances to a brand new corner of the Tulsa King world.
The series also brings together an impressive creative team, with Sheridan, Stallone and Jackson executive producing. The supporting cast includes Asa Germann (The Boys: Gen V), Kai Caster (Spider-Noir), Lilah Pate (Outer Banks) and Savanna Gann (English Teacher).
Adding even more authenticity to the Texas setting, Frisco King filmed in Fort Worth, Texas, beginning in March 2026.
A premiere date has not yet been announced, but we already know Lee is coming to Texas with a complicated past, serious connections and plenty of experience on the wrong side of the law. Add Samuel L. Jackson, Taylor Sheridan and the Tulsa King universe to the mix, and Frisco King is shaping up to be a very interesting new chapter.
Frisco King will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
