Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, and Kate Mara lead a layered mystery that peels back the truth behind a decades-long friendship built on secrets.
Why Imperfect Women Is a Must-Watch 👀
There’s something about Imperfect Women that immediately pulls you in—and it’s not just the star power (though yes, we’re absolutely seated for Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, and Kate Mara sharing the screen). It’s the way the series leans into the emotional gray areas we don’t always talk about—friendships that evolve, identities that shift, and the quiet choices that end up defining entire lives.

This isn’t a loud, flashy thriller that relies on twists alone. It’s a slow-burn unraveling—one that asks you to sit with discomfort, read between the lines, and question every version of the truth you’re being shown. The performances feel layered, the tension feels earned, and the story understands that sometimes the most dangerous secrets aren’t the ones we hide from others—but the ones we justify to ourselves.
And if the show is already telling us that not everything—and not everyone—is what it seems… the real question is:
How well do you really know the people closest to you?
🎬 Page to Screen: The Making of Imperfect Women
Behind the camera, Imperfect Women is just as intentional as the story it tells. Kerry Washington was a major force in pushing for the series to film in Los Angeles—not just for aesthetics, but for impact. At a time when productions continue to leave the city, Washington advocated for keeping jobs local, supporting industry crews, and creating opportunities for talent to work close to home. It’s a move that feels especially aligned with the show’s themes of community and connection—making sure the people bringing the story to life could do so without having to uproot their own lives.
The series itself comes from Annie Weisman, who adapts Araminta Hall’s novel into a layered, character-driven thriller that leans into emotional complexity as much as mystery. Produced by Apple Studios and 20th Television, Imperfect Women brings together a powerhouse team both in front of and behind the camera. Elisabeth Moss and Lindsey McManus executive produce through Love & Squalor Pictures, while Washington produces under Simpson Street alongside Pilar Savone. Hall and writer Kay Oyegun also serve as executive producers, with Lesli Linka Glatter directing key episodes.
It’s the kind of collaboration where every detail feels considered—and that intention shows up in every frame.
Reel Perspectives recently attended the global press conference for the series where cast members Kerry, Elizabeth, and Kate provided insight into their respective characters. They emphasized the importance of not vilifying mistakes, but rather to understand, leading to personal growth.
🕵🏽♀️ A Friendship Under Investigation
At the center of Imperfect Women is a friendship that looks solid—but baby… the vibes are off.
We’re following three longtime friends played by Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, and Kate Mara—and from the jump, you can tell this isn’t your typical “ride or die” situation. This is decades of side-eyes, secrets, sex, and several things left unsaid.
And the men? Oh, they are deeply in the mix. Joel Kinnaman, Leslie Odom Jr., and Corey Stoll all step in with performances that feel intentional—like everybody knows more than they’re letting on.

You see, Kinnaman’s character is married to Nancy (Mara), but his connection to Washington’s Eleanor? Yeah… that didn’t just disappear. Odom Jr. brings a grounded but watchful energy as Eleanor’s brother—like he’s clocking everything and more. And Stoll plays Mary’s (Moss) husband with this almost too-calm demeanor that makes you lean in a little closer.
Then the show hits you with the line that basically sums it all up, straight from the detective investigating Nancy’s murder:
“What the three of you had, I don’t even know what to call it, but it wasn’t a friendship…” — Detective Ganz
Oh. So we’re not even pretending anymore.
Because Eleanor is out here living her best and messiest life—Black elite, nonprofit queen (heavy on the aesthetic), gorgeous loft, and a very questionable situation with her younger employee (Rome Flynn’s Jordan). She’s polished, powerful… and absolutely spiraling underneath it all.
As for Mary? She’s giving quiet sacrifice. Gave up her academic career, raising kids, holding it down in a house that looks perfect from the outside—but the energy inside? Stale. Tired. Stuck.
And then there’s Nancy.
“Who was the real Nancy Hennessey?”
Because Nancy had the Stepford wife marriage, the status, the proximity to power, and still ended up dead.
And that’s where Imperfect Women really locks you in.

This isn’t just about who killed Nancy—it’s about why. Was it her husband? Her lover? Or someone tied to a past that refuses to stay buried?
As the investigation unfolds, every layer of this friendship starts peeling back—and what’s underneath is not loyalty, it’s survival. These women haven’t just been lying to each other… they’ve been lying to themselves for years.
And now? The truth is finally collecting its debt. Press play on the trailer below:
Imperfect Women premieres March 18 on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases leading up to the April 29 finale.
