John Sugar is back, and his next case may be his most dangerous yet.


After an aganozing two year wait, Apple TV brought back one of its most stylish and intriguing thrillers on June 19 and fans of Sugar have every reason to be excited. The neo-noir detective drama returned for its highly anticipated second season, with Colin Farrell stepping back into the role of Los Angeles private investigator John Sugar.


After the critically acclaimed first season that blended classic detective storytelling with unexpected twists, Sugar Season 2 is raising the stakes with a fresh mystery, a bigger conspiracy, and an all new cast of characters ready to shake up Sugar’s world.


Created by Mark Protosevich, the series continues under the leadership of showrunners and executive producers Sam Catlin and Audrey Chon, with Farrell also serving as executive producer alongside Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich.

The official logline for Season 2 teases, Season two ushers in the return of Los Angeles’ iconic private detective and film connoisseur... tracking the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as his search for his beloved missing sister continues. As the investigation expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question — how far will he go to do what’s right?


With its slick cinematography and moody atmosphere, joining Farrell this season is an impressive lineup of fresh faces, including Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, Sasha Calle, and special guest star Shea Whigham. Expect new alliances, dangerous enemies, and twists around every corner.


Season 1 was a bold reinvention of the genre with it's alien twist and season 2 delivers on its promise of deeper conspiracies with Ferrell's magnetic performance continuing to balance Sugar with vulnerability, quiet intensity, and emotional weight that keeps the character grounded.


The first episode of Season 2 is streaming on Apple TV with new episodes released every Friday through August 7.
