The long-awaited sequel finds Miranda Priestly navigating the collapse of print media while facing an unexpected rival who knows her playbook all too well.
👜 On the Runway, Miranda Priestly Still Runs the Show
It’s been nearly two decades since we last entered the ruthless world of Runway magazine — and if the new teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2 proves anything, Miranda Priestly is still very much that… boss.

A sequel to the beloved 2006 film — which starred Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt — was officially confirmed in July 2024, with several of the original stars set to return to their now-iconic roles in a fashion media landscape that looks very different from the one they left behind. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, the creative team behind the original film, are also back for the sequel. In the years since its release, The Devil Wears Prada hasn’t just held up — it’s grown into a full-blown cultural touchstone, even inspiring a stage musical adaptation starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly with music by Elton John.
And let’s be honest: when a movie gives us one of the most quotable bosses in film history, a closet full of unforgettable fashion moments, and lines we’re still repeating nearly twenty years later… of course, people are excited to see what the ultimate boss bitch, Miranda Priestly, does next.
💄 The Original Devil Wears Prada: A Fashion Classic
The original The Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a recent college graduate who unexpectedly lands a job as the junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the notoriously demanding editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine Runway. As Andy struggles to survive Miranda’s impossible expectations, she finds herself navigating the cutthroat fashion world alongside Miranda’s sharp-tongued senior assistant Emily (Emily Blunt) and the ever-stylish creative director Nigel (Stanley Tucci).
Released in 2006, the film quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Streep’s icy portrayal of Miranda Priestly turned the character into one of the most iconic bosses in movie history, while the film itself grossed more than $326 million worldwide. The Devil Wears Prada also made its mark during awards season, earning two Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Streep, who also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
👠 Press N’ Play: The Devil Wears Prada 2 Teaser
The teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2 makes one thing immediately clear: Miranda Priestly may be nearing retirement, but she’s still running Runway like a dictatorship in designer heels.
This time, however, the fashion world around her is changing. According to Variety, the sequel finds Miranda (Meryl Streep) trying to keep Runway relevant as traditional print magazines continue to decline in a digital-first fashion industry where advertising dollars hold the real power.
And unfortunately for Miranda, the person controlling those dollars is someone who learned the game directly from her.

Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) has gone from overworked assistant to high-powered executive at a luxury fashion group, putting her in direct competition with her former boss. The teaser hints that the sequel will center on the escalating rivalry between Miranda and Emily as Runway fights to stay relevant.
But the preview also gives fans exactly what they came for: Miranda Priestly casually ruining Andy Sachs’ morning.
In the teaser, Miranda shows up unannounced at Andy’s apartment, pounding on the door until a half-asleep Andy (Anne Hathaway) answers wearing pajamas and a sleep mask. Miranda takes one look at her former assistant and immediately slips back into command mode, snapping,
“Pull yourself together. We have work to do. And by we, I mean you.”
Meanwhile, the Runway crew clearly hasn’t lost their signature brand of fashion-world shade. Nigel (Stanley Tucci) wastes no time delivering a brutally familiar greeting when he sizes Andy up and dryly remarks,
“Look what T.J. Maxx dragged in.”
And of course, Miranda’s razor-sharp tongue is still fully operational. At one point in the teaser, she tosses off another perfectly deadpan line that feels ripped straight out of the original film:
“What? What am I not allowed to say? Methadone? New Jersey?”
Beyond the returning favorites, the sequel is also expanding the Runway universe with a long list of new faces. Simone Ashley appears in the teaser, while Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as Miranda’s husband, according to Deadline. Additional newcomers include Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Caleb Hearon, and Broadway performers Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora, per Variety.

Fan-favorite characters are also making their return, including Tracie Thoms as Andy’s best friend Lily, and Tibor Feldman as Elias-Clark chairman Irv Ravitz.
The sequel may also draw inspiration from Lauren Weisberger’s 2013 novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, which takes place nearly a decade after the original film and follows Andy and Emily as successful magazine editors — until Miranda inevitably finds her way back into their lives.
One thing the teaser proves, though: the fashion industry may be evolving, but Miranda Priestly is still very much Miranda Priestly.
And as for Runway? Still not for the weak. Watch the footage below:
