Move over The White Lotus and The Talented Mr Ripley, the new six-episode psychological thriller "Malice," written and created by James Wood, is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video, and we can honestly say we did not see that ending coming.

Starring David Duchovny, Carice van Houten, Jack Whitehall, Christine Adams, and Raza Jaffrey, the series premiered on November 14 and follows a male nanny, Adam (Whitehall), who infiltrates the wealthy Tanner family with a hidden agenda targeting the venture capitalist patriarch Jamie Tanner. The series opens with Adam touching down in New York. When a TSA agent scans his visa, he's immediately taken aside for questioning by Homeland Security. When he is shown a picture of someone's death, he fakes sympathy but says he's not surprised that the person died, claiming he was a bad man.

The series then takes us back to a little over a month, to the weeks Adam spent with Jamie and his family in their lavish villa in Greece, taking its time laying the foundation, and slowly reveals why Adam is seeking revenge against Jamie, whom he blames for his father's demise.

The twist, of course, is that someone in Jamie's family died. By the time Jamie pieces everything together, after Adam poisoned their real nanny, it's too late. Adam has successfully dismantled Jamie's company, ruined his reputation, and is now going after his wife and kids. Duchovny, best known for his role in The X-Files, delivers one of his most compelling roles as a man who's not necessarily a moral man or even a good family man, but has layers of vulnerability and redeeming qualities, setting the stage for the final confrontation between the two men that was genuinely surprising. Whitehall, best known for his comedic work, effectively portrays a man who's affable yet sinister.

The series is worth streaming for Duchovny's layered performance, with each episode unravelling a new thread of mystery, slowly culminating in a surprise ending that is worth every bingeable minute.

All six episodes of "Malice" are now streaming on Prime Video.
