"House of David" is the new historical drama that presents the timeless tale surrounding one of Israel's most popular and beloved kings told in Biblical folklore. The new series epically brings to life the powerful history of David following his ascent to King from humble beginnings as a young shepherd who rose to prominence succeeding King Saul with his love and faith for God at the center of the film. The series premiered exclusively on Prime Video on February 27 with 3 episodes and will release new episodes on Thursdays through its season finale on May 3.
Created and executive produced by John Erwin (Jesus Revolution, Ordinary Angels) with production companies The WONDER Project and Amazon MGM Studios, the official synopsis reveals that King Saul, the once mighty King fell victim to his pride. "At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new King. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he's destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise."
The series stars:
Michael Iskander as David
Ali Suliman as King Saul
Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam

Oded Fehr as Abner

With several adaptations of biblical figures, including King David, through movies and television, this series narrates David with Biblical precision, with the expansion of other storylines taking few liberties to honor the character with respect and homage. Key moments in David's history are depicted to showcase his character and strength with intimate detail through his friendship with Jonathan, his relationship with his mother, Samuel, and his complicated relationship with King Saul, which is fascinating to watch and one of the best throughout the series. With fantastic performances by the cast and, most notably, Iskander and Suliman, who transform Saul into a perfect multi layered composition of ambition, compassion, terror, and trauma, the breathtaking cinematography elevates the series from ordinary and offers an incredibly immersive experience that sets it apart from previous adaptations.
"House of David" captivates from the first episode and courageously shows how one young shepherd boy was destined for greatness. With the first episode leading into David going head to head with the giant Goliath, you cannot help but smile at the powerful evocation the scene holds.
The first 3 episodes of House of David is available to stream on Prime Video.
