Disney+ expands the world of Percy Jackson with richer character depth, joyful inclusivity, and standout performances from its young BIPOC leads.

Greetings, Campers! The demigods are back, the monsters are bigger, and the stakes are somehow even pettier than last season. Percy Jackson and the Olympians return exclusively to Disney+ with its long-awaited Season 2 premiere, diving into The Sea of Monsters, Rick Riordan’s second book in the series. And if you thought the Season 1 finale was messy — Luke’s betrayal, Kronos stretching his dusty limbs, and the gods once again proving they have never heard of therapy — consider this your warning to buckle up.
When we last left our heroes, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth had survived the quest to retrieve Zeus’s lightning bolt and sidestep an Olympian war. Simple enough, except it required outrunning monsters, negotiating with gods who behave like messy aunts at Thanksgiving, and discovering that your “cool older brother figure” might actually be assisting a Titan revival. Classic YA character-building chaos.
Created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, Season 2 opens with an even more personal crisis. Camp Half-Blood is in danger, Grover is missing, and someone has poisoned Thalia’s tree. Rude. To fix it, Percy must venture into the Sea of Monsters — known to mortals as the Bermuda Triangle — and retrieve the Golden Fleece, a magical cure-all straight out of Greek mythology. Disney+ promises an epic rescue mission, but longtime fans know this is the book where the emotional stakes sharpen, and the plot refuses to let anyone breathe.

This season continues the clever tradition of titling each episode after Riordan’s chapter names. The eight-episode lineup is already live with a two-part premiere, and the titles include:
I Play Dodgeball with Cannibals
Demon Pigeons Attack
We Board the Princess Andromeda
Clarisse Blows Up Everything
We Check In to C.C.’s Spa & Resort
Nobody Gets the Fleece
I Go Down With the Ship
The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well
Yes, they are exactly as chaotic as they sound.
The cast remains one of the show’s biggest strengths. Walker Scobell returns as Percy, Aryan Simhadri once again steals scenes as the anxious but lovable Grover, and Leah Sava Jeffries delivers a sharp, commanding Annabeth Chase. Jeffries also carries cultural significance as a Black girl leading one of the most prominent YA fantasy franchises on television. Scobell, Simhadri, and Jeffries feel even more grounded this season, settling into their roles with a confidence that gives every emotional beat more weight.
Season 2 also expands its star power, and frankly, its budget. Andra Day joins as Athena, bringing cool precision and divine authority, while Lin-Manuel Miranda returns as Hermes with familiar charisma and mischief. Representation isn’t just present; it’s shaping the tone and texture of this world.
What makes this adaptation truly special is its commitment to inclusive casting. Jeffries and Simhadri aren’t just filling beloved roles — they’re redefining how a new generation imagines heroes. Annabeth, as a brilliant Black strategist, and Grover, as an emotionally intelligent South Asian protector, bring depth and humanity to characters who once lived only on the page.

And of course, we need to talk about Percabeth. The tension this season is giving, “You annoy me… but I would absolutely fight a god for you before breakfast.” Scobell and Jeffries play their growing bond with sweet, awkward charm — the kind that book fans will sprint toward every week.
Fans have already flooded social media with reactions to this season’s first two episodes, proving the Percy Jackson fandom has never believed in subtlety or emotional restraint.
It’s also one of the few fantasy series today that actively reflects the diversity of its audience, something Reel Perspectives will be watching closely all season.
At its heart, Percy Jackson is for anyone who has ever felt caught between worlds. It’s perfect for new viewers, nostalgic for longtime readers, and surprisingly rich for adults who still consider themselves children at heart. If you love fantasy, clever humor, or watching kids outsmart immortal beings, this season is for you.
Reel Perspectives will be covering Season 2 weekly, courtesy of our newest contributor, Morgan Allison Ross — fully prepared to discuss mythology, monsters, and why demigods absolutely need a union.
The first two episodes are available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu, with weekly episodes released through the season finale on January 21, 2026.
