Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Casts One Last Spell as the Russo Family Says Goodbye

Disney’s Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has officially returned for its third and final season, bringing the beloved Disney Channel story to a four-part conclusion. The finale event premiered on Disney Channel on August 4, 2026, before all four episodes arrived on Disney+ on August 5.

If you thought the Season 2 cliffhanger left Billie and the Russos in a tough spot, things are about to get even more complicated. The final chapter picks up with Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) still dealing with the devastating loss of Alex Russo (Selena Gomez). After the events of Season 2, Billie is convinced that her powers may be too dangerous and makes the drastic decision to give them up. But walking away from magic doesn't mean magic is finished with her. Not even close.

With Alex still missing, Billie sets out to bring her mother home. What begins as a mission to rescue Alex quickly becomes something much bigger, forcing the entire Russo family to come together as they uncover secrets surrounding Billie's past, search for long-lost family members and confront a dark force threatening everything they have built.

One of the most interesting pieces of the final season is Billie's relationship with her own power. She's spent much of the series trying to understand what it means to be a wizard, where she fits into the Russo family and whether she can actually control the incredible abilities she's been given. Now, after losing Alex, Billie reaches a breaking point. Giving up her powers might seem like the safest option, but the final four episodes make it clear that being powerful isn't necessarily the same thing as being dangerous. Billie's journey becomes just as much about understanding who she is as it is about saving Alex and she isn't doing it alone. Justin Russo (David Henrie) once again finds himself pulled into the chaos, while Roman (Alkaio Thiele), Milo (Max Matenko), Winter (Taylor Cora) and Giada (Mimi Gianopulos) become part of one final Russo family adventure.

For longtime Wizards of Waverly Place fans, Disney has packed the concluding episodes with some seriously nostalgic returns. Jennifer Stone is back as Harper Finkle, Alex's longtime best friend, while Gregg Sulkin returns as Mason Greyback. Their appearances give the finale an extra connection to the original series and remind fans just how much history these characters share.

Selena Gomez also returns as Alex Russo throughout the final chapter and makes her directorial debut with the opening episode. It's a pretty fitting way for Gomez to help close out a story that played such a major role in her career.

The final episodes also introduce Brandon Micheal Hall as Damien Penwulf, Billie's long-lost father, while Maria Canals-Barrera returns as Theresa Russo. Ramon Reed and Tobias Jelinek also join the finale as Silas Evilini and Lord Morsus, respectively. That is a lot of magical history packed into four episodes.

The concluding episode, appropriately titled “The Last Spell,” brings the Russo family's story to its emotional finish. Billie is determined to save Alex, but the mission quickly turns into a fight for the entire Russo family. The danger they face isn't something one wizard can simply defeat with a clever spell. It takes the family's combined strength to confront the darkness threatening them.

At its heart, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has always been about family. The messy parts, the funny parts, the arguments, the secrets and, ultimately, the idea that these people will show up for one another when it matters most.

So it makes sense that the final battle isn't simply about who has the strongest magic. It's about whether the Russos can stand together.

The finale was bittersweet, watching the series come to an end. The original Wizards of Waverly Place became a defining Disney Channel series for an entire generation, and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place gave that world another opportunity to introduce the Russo family to a new generation of viewers.

Now, the story is officially reaching its final spell. The four-part event gives Billie a chance to step into her own destiny while bringing Alex, Justin, and the rest of the Russo family back together for one last adventure. And with familiar faces returning alongside the new generation, the finale isn't simply closing a chapter, it's bringing two eras of the franchise together.
