The CBS special, On TV: A Black History Month Special, premiered exclusively on CBS on February 17 however the celebration of Black excellence in television continues as you can still stream this fantastic special On Demand on Paramount+ and Paramount+ with Showtime. Filmed on location from the sets of CBS programs, the special guides viewers through a journey of Black history and representation in the media, honoring past and present trailblazers just in time for Black History Month.


Hosted by "Entertainment Tonight's" alums Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner, the first Black co-hosting team for the venerable series, the special shines a spotlight on Black actors who are forging a path in Daytime and Primetime television. Through intimate interviews, these actors share their unique experiences, personal stories, and reflections. Stars from beloved series like The Neighborhood, NCIS, and S.W.A.T. honor the trailblazing pioneers who transformed the entertainment landscape.

  • Cicely Tyson -  the first Black actress to star as a regular in a TV drama series (1963)


  • Sidney Poitier - the first Black actor to win a Best Actor Oscar (1964)


  • Star Trek - groundbreaking moment with the first interracial kiss on television (1968)


  • Harold Walker -  the first Black network news correspondent (1969)


  • All In The Family -  featured the first interracial married couple on television (1971)


  • Michele Clark - the first Black female network news correspondent (1972)



The inspiring special celebrates and uplifts as we honor the legacy of television performers who paved the way with their impactful performances and treasured moments. They shine a beacon of hope for the new leaders in the entertainment industry. This program not only remembers but dedicates to ensuring continued diversity and representation for African Americans in the entertainment landscape, paying beautiful tribute to those who have come before and those who are present today.
