In a stunning move, CBS has officially cancelled "Watson" after just two seasons. The series, led by the talented Morris Chestnut, quickly gained a dedicated audience and established its own niche in an already crowded television landscape.
The series finale will air on May 3, as first reported by the Hollywood Reporter. Chestnut stars as the titular Dr. John Watson from Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes folklore. The medical drama with a modern take first premiered on January 26, 2025, and was created by Craig Sweeny.
The series never truly found its footing, as ratings declined in Season 2, even though it initially premiered with strong numbers. Despite consistent buzz and a passionate fanbase, CBS confirmed that the upcoming season will not move forward, marking an abrupt end to what many believed was one of the network's most promising newer franchises.
CBS has also pulled the plug on "DMV" after just 1 season while renewing breakout hits, "CIA" and "Marshalls". The workplace comedy follows a group of East Hollywood DMV workers and stars Harriet Dyer, Tony Cavalero, and Tim Meadows. The series will air its series finale on May 11, 2026.
Fans of "Watson" have already taken to social media to celebrate Chestnut, hoping the show will find new life elsewhere with another network or streaming platform reviving the series.
New episodes of Watson air on CBS Sunday at 10/9c. All episodes are available to stream on Paramount+.
