On Tuesday, it was announced that Everybody Hates Chris will get an animated reboot on Comedy Central. Executive producer Chris Rock will return to star and narrate, along with Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold, who portrayed Chris' parents (Julius and Rochelle) in the original series.

New cast members include Ozioma Akagha, Terrence Little Gardenhigh, Gunnar Sizemore, and Tim Johnson Jr, portraying the new Chris, with a focus on age-appropriate voice actors for the young characters.

Tyler James Williams, who portrayed the original Chris, will not return to his role. Following the conclusion of Everybody Hates Chris, he has achieved significant success in various roles, including Disney's "Let It Shine," Noah on AMC's "The Walking Dead," and currently as Gregory Eddie on ABC's "Abbott Elementary," a performance which garnered critical acclaim. Williams has been honored with a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award. He has received two nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

When asked about the animated series, Rock stated he was very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of his childhood.

"I wanted this job to get free tickets to a Chris Rock stand-up show, but we ended up making something we're proud of that is true to the original series we all loved," showrunner Sanjay Shah added.

We all fondly remember Everybody Hates Chris, the critically acclaimed and beloved sitcom initially broadcast on UPN and The CW from 2005 to 2009. The show was based on Chris Rock's experiences as a teenager living in Brooklyn, New York, from 1982 to 1987. It was inspired by his experience growing up as a "skinny nerd" in a working-class family in Bedford-Stuyvesant during the late 1980s while attending a predominantly white school.

Everybody Hates Chris was celebrated for its exceptional writing, hilarious comedy, and outstanding performances. The show won the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (Ali LeRoi), Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series (Tichina Arnold), and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Tyler James Williams). Additionally, the show was nominated for a Golden Globe and three Emmy Awards.

Crews and Arnold took to Instagram to share their excitement about the reboot:

The animated reboot was first announced in 2022. The new series will be titled Everybody Still Hates Chris and will be released on Comedy Central and Paramount+.

Produced by CBS Studios, Chris Rock Enterprises, and 3 Arts Entertainment, the 30-minute series will premiere on Comedy Central later this year and stream on Paramount+.

Everybody Hates Chris is currently streaming on Tubi and Prime Video.
