Veteran actor Keith David has joined the cast of NBC’s upcoming comedy pilot from Brooklyn Nine-Nine creators Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici.

First reported by Deadline, the untitled single-camera project is set in the world of private investigators in Los Angeles and follows Mickey Wilder, a former LAPD cop who reinvents himself as a private detective. The role of Mickey is played by Jake Johnson.

David will play Garner Taggert, the tough, old-school head of the Garner Taggert PI Agency. Taggert runs the firm where Mickey and Taggert’s son Mitch work as investigators, bringing a blunt and traditional leadership style to the office.

The comedy comes from Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, the creative team behind the hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The pilot is being directed and executive produced by Akiva Schaffer.

David is a three-time Emmy winner with a long career spanning film, television, and voice acting. He’s known for roles in films such as The Thing, Armageddon, and Crash, as well as his distinctive voice work in numerous documentaries and animated series. His latest series The Gray House is currently streaming on Prime Video.

NBC continues to assemble the cast for the pilot, which comes from Universal Television. More casting news is expected as the project moves forward.
