Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson wants the world to see the man behind the curtain. In an explosive four-part documentary released exclusively on Netflix today, the new docuseries chronicles the rise and fall of disgraced media mogul Sean Combs, also known as P Diddy. He is currently serving a four-year prison sentence on initial charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and prostitution. In July, Combs was found guilty on two counts related to the transportation of individuals for prostitution. He is scheduled to be released from prison in June 2028.
Executive produced by Jackson and directed by Emmy Award-winning director Alexandria Stapleton, Sean Combs: The Reckoning is a staggering examination of the media mogul, music legend, and convicted offender. Born with an insatiable drive for stardom and a knack for spotting talent, Combs made a quick ascent through the ranks of the music industry with Bad Boy Entertainment and was crucial in bringing hip-hop to the pop masses and launching the careers of dozens of generation-defining artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Danity Kane. But along the way, and as detailed by his former associates, childhood friends, artists, and employees, something darker began to color his ambitions. Through explosive, never-before-seen materials (including footage from the days leading up to CoCombs's indictment and arrest, and exclusive interviews with those formerly in his orbit), this documentary tells the story of a powerful, enterprising man and the gilded empire he built — and the underworld that lay just beneath its surface.
Recoiling from the explosive series, Combs' legal team has released a statement accusing the documentary of being a "shameful hit piece." Further adding, "... Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorized for release. As Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos know, Mr. Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way. It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work.
Netflix is plainly desperate to sensationalize every minute of Mr. Combs’s life, without regard for truth, in order to capitalize on a never-ending media frenzy. If Netflix cared about truth or about Mr. Combs’s legal rights, it would not be ripping private footage out of context – including conversations with his lawyers that were never intended for public viewing. No rights in that material were ever transferred to Netflix or any third party.
It is equally staggering that Netflix handed creative control to Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson – a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta who has spent too much time slandering Mr. Combs.
Director Stapleton immediately rebuffed those allegations, stating that they obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights. "We moved heaven and earth to keep the filmmaker's identity confidential," she added. "One thing about Sean Combs is that he's always filming himself, and it's seen as an obsession throughout the decades. We also reached out to Sean Combs ' legal team for an interview and comment multiple times, but did not hear back."
Don't miss the explosive documentary that has social media buzzing.
