The highly anticipated sophomore season of The Diplomat returned on October 31 on Netflix with six episodes, as fans were dying to know the outcome of the explosive season 1 finale that saw Kate Wyler learning of the car explosion that may or may not have killed her husband, Hal.
Kerri Russell stars as Kate Wyler and continues to be fantastic in a performance that earned her a Lead actress Emmy nomination for the first season. We first met Kate as the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom and wife to an increasingly ambitious husband who will stop at nothing to further his career when the show premiered on Netflix in April 2023. Kate finds herself way in overhead as she tries to uncover the political conspiracy of who was responsible for the British aircraft carrier attack. Caught in the middle of an international nightmare, Kate goes to the U.K. to grease alliances, and conflict arises when British Prime Minister Nicol Throwbridge accuses Iran of being responsible; however, she gets information that Roman Lenkov, a Russian mercenary, was responsible. Throwbridge gets angry when President Rayburn and Secretary of State Miguel Ganon decide they will peacefully arrest Lenkov instead of killing him. Through a series of riveting twists and turns, Kate, together with the British Foreign Secretary, Austin Dennison, realizes that Throwbridge was the one who hired Lenkov to attack the carrier and secretly ordered his assassination for political optics to ensure his re-election.
