Christmas may be over, but that doesn't mean you can't catch one last Christmas special before the season is over. The latest "Doctor Who" Christmas special, "Joy To The World," premiered on Disney+ on December 25. It continues with its holiday tradition that one can expect from the annual stand-alone episode in its twenty years of producing Holiday Christmas specials. Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education) returns for the adventure and stars as the Fifteenth Doctor, joined by Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), who plays Joy Almondo.
"Doctor Who," originally produced by BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), was revived in 2005 from its original run from 1963-1989, follows an alien Time Lord called the Doctor who travels with a companion in a time and space machine called the TARDIS.
Written by Stephen Moffat with showrunner Russell T. Davies for the Whoniverse, the cast includes Steph de Whalley, Jonathan Aris, Joey Fry, Peter Benedict, Julia Watson and Niamh Marie Smith.
In Joy to the World, Time Hotel takes center stage when the hotel is home to portals to other time periods in 4202. Joy opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel and she discovers danger, dinosaurs, and the Doctor. With a deadly plan unfolding across the Earth, the good Doctor travels through time to World War II, Mount Everest, and the Orient Express!
The episode wouldn't be a Doctors Who episode if there wasn't danger lurking at every turn. A returning villain returns to wreak havoc, and Joy finds herself locked to the Villengard briefcase holding the star seed.
The excitement and adventure of the Holiday cheers unfold in this magical Christmas episode!
