"The devil is in the details" - Jim Field Smith.

Still reeling from that exposive finale? We spoke with showrunner Jim Field Smith about Sam's journey in this highly intense season. We discussed why he wanted to tell a different story in Season 1 that delivered high stakes and consequences for Sam, promising viewers that they would get answers, but it may not be the answers we expect.

When it was announced that Apple TV's critically acclaimed series Hijack was greenlit for a second season with the same premise of business negotiator Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) having to negotiate another hijacking attempt, it felt like a repeat of the same plot but with a different location. That notion was completely debunked at the end of Episode 1, when it was revealed that Sam was the one hijacking the Berlin commuter train, forced to do so to protect his ex-wife, Marsha (Christine Adams).

The plot twist changed the entire trajectory, leading to an exciting finale filled with genuine twists and turns that left viewers wondering who the actual mastermind was as Sam tried to keep the 200+ passengers safe. Sam eventually realizes the plan and turns the tables on the bad guys, exposing Robert Lang's role in the conspiracy.

Surprising details about his son's death were also revealed, as he initially believed his death was a random accident; however, his son had unknowingly gotten close to information connected to the same criminal network behind the events of Season 1.

Speaking with Jim Field Smith, there were several discussions with the creatives about what he wanted the story to look like if Elba were to return, emphasizing he did not want a retread of Season 1. He wanted to move to a personal conspiracy with Sam, more involved in the plot rather than just reacting to events. While Season 1 is mainly about surviving the hijacking of a flight from Dubai to London, Season 2 is about family, grief, revenge, and being forced into impossible choices, raising the emotional stakes.

Sharing his vision for Season 2, Smith commended his incredible ensemble, who were instrumental in shaping the story's visual and physical elements and bringing it to life.

Don't miss Season 2 of Hijack. This season is packed with genuine tension, drama, and suspense. Although there has been no official announcement regarding Season 3, the finale left things open-ended. While the conspiracy is exposed, the criminal organization isn't completely destroyed, which suggests that the hijackings may have been only one part of a much bigger operation, leaving room for another crisis. On a ship, perhaps?

Seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Apple TV.
