Dexter is the gift that keeps on giving, nearly two decades later. Our favorite serial killer is back in the highly anticipated fourth series of the hit Dexter franchise with Dexter: Resurrection. The new installment, which serves as a prequel to Dexter: Original Sin, follows everyone's favorite serial killer with a code adapted from Jeff Lindsay's novels, who cheated death twice, played by Michael C. Hall. Resurrection premiered on Paramount+ Premium on Friday, July 11, with two of its ten episodes. New episodes will be released every Friday leading up to the season finale on September 5.
The original Dexter series ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013, followed by Dexter: New Blood. A continuation of New Blood, Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City determined to find him and make things right. But, closure won't come easy. When Miami Metro's Angel Batista arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together.

Produced by SHOWTIME and Counterpart Studios, the series is executive produced by Clyde Phillips, who also serves as showrunner, along with Hall executive producing.
In addition to Hall, rounding out the cast are Uma Thurman, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, James Remar, and Peter Dinklage. Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian will also guest star.
Hall is synonymous with Dexter as peanut butter is with jelly. While Original Sin was a great series and delivered the highest ratings in the history of Showtime, with more than 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers, per the official release, it's Hall's charisma and deep understanding of Dexter that makes the series work. Hall continues to have a pulse on his character, making the series quite enjoyable.
The return of familiar character adds to the nostalgia of previous seasons and the series with solid writing, brings Dexter back with nuanced layers of evolution, taking us back to the heart of the character. Dark, twisted, and smart, the new series reminds us why we fell in love with Dexter in the first place.
Catch all new episodes of Dexter: Resurrection on Paramount+ Premium on Fridays and SHOWTIME on Sundays at 8 PM ET/PT.
