Ocean with David Attenborough is the new immersive documentary narrated by the Veteran British broadcaster that brings our attention to the ocean's beauty in all its splendor, taking viewers on a breathtaking journey to discover the surprises and wonders that lie beneath.
Produced by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, the global cinematic event was released ahead of World Ocean Day. It was released on National Geographic, Disney+, and Hulu on June 8, offering spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests, and the open ocean, reminding viewers that preventing climate disasters and keeping our entire planet stable and flourishing rely on a healthy ocean.
Attenborough, best known for his intricate collaboration with BBC Studios Natural History Unit that brought us such documentary gems as the Planet Earth franchise, The Blue Planet, and its sequel, draws on his expansive knowledge, at age 99, of the ocean's discovery to reveal a sweeping celebration of ocean life with a gripping reminder of what's at stake if our oceans are taken for granted with industrial exploitation and harmful fishing practices. Yet, per the official release, the story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.
Directed by Keith Scholey, Colin Butfield, and Toby Nowlan, the documentary offers an unparalleled journey with never-before-seen footage, featuring stunning and immersive cinematography showcasing our glorious and spectacular marine ecosystem.
Ocean with David Attenborough is available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
