Supacell is a 6 episodic British superhero television series that debuted on Netflix on June 27, 2024.
Since its debut, Supacell has been a global hit among fans with a perfect "Rotten Tomatoes" score. Unlike other superhero series, Supacell stands out with its unique storyline and diverse cast, carving out its own space among the superhero platform. It currently sits in Netflix's global top 10 chart within days of its release.
Written by Andrew Onwubolu, better known by his stage name as Rapman, whose credits include Blue Story, Supacell is the first original series written and produced by a Black British filmmaker for Netflix.
Per Netflix's official synopsis, a group of ordinary people from South London unexpectedly develop superpowers. There is no clear connection between them other than their being all Black. As they deal with the impact on their daily lives, one man has to bring them together to protect the one he loves while avoiding the powerful and nefarious agents who have noticed their special abilities.
Supacell's cast includes:
Tosin Cole as Michael Lasaki, who can teleport and manipulate time.
Adelayo Adedayo as Dionne Ofori, Michael's fiancée.
Nadine Mills as Sabrina Clarke, with the ability of telekinesis.
Calvin Demba as Rodney, with the ability of super speed.
Eddie Marsan as Ray, the leader of an organization trying to hunt them down.

What makes Supacell resonate with viewers is that although it is a sci-fi, superhuman fantasy series, it's grounded in realism and depicts social awareness, with themes of racism, socioeconomics, and sickle cell awareness that predominantly affect the African American community.
With impressive ratings that exceeded expectations, fans have many reasons to be excited about a second season. The Supacell ending and post credits teased that there is more to be told if Netflix gives the green light.
While official plans for a season 2 have yet to be confirmed, Rapman is more than ready. In a statement provided to UNILAD, he stated, "I've told Netflix loads of times that I've got plans for multiple seasons. But you know how it goes, they're gonna see how it does, and hopefully we get the next season."
Supacell is currently streaming on Netflix.
