Hillman College isn’t closing its doors anytime soon! Netflix has officially renewed A Different World for Season 2, bringing the new generation of Hillman students back for another year of college life, complicated relationships, unforgettable friendships and plenty of drama.
The renewal arrives just eight days after the sequel series premiered on Netflix on September 24, giving fans even more reason to celebrate. Season 1 made Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list and reached the Top 10 in 15 countries, while bringing the beloved HBCU world of A Different World to a new generation.
Led by Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the daughter of original A Different World favorites Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, the series follows Deborah and her classmates as they find their footing at Hillman. Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece and Chibuikem Uche round out the new generation, while Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer and Darryl M. Bell bring familiar faces back into the Hillman universe.
Season 2 will pick up after summer break as Deborah and her friends return to campus for their sophomore year. With new relationships, old decisions, changing friendships and questions about the future waiting for them, freshman year was only the beginning of the Hilman drama.
Creator and showrunner Felicia Pride says the response from viewers played a major part in the show's quick return, while executive producer and director Debbie Allen celebrated the renewal and promised fans another chapter filled with the heart, romance and relevance that have long defined the franchise.
A Different World is streaming now on Netflix.
