The Better Sister is the gripping new drama that premiered exclusively on Prime Video on May 29, releasing all of its eight dramatic episodes at once. Based on the best-selling book by Alafair Burke, adapted to television by executive producers and showrunners Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado. The dramatic series follows the fractured family dynamics of two sisters who reunite after the brutal murder of one of their husbands tears their family apart as the prime suspect sends shockwaves through the family, bringing chaos, devastation, drama, and suspense in this taut thriller.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Tomorrow Studios (part of ITV Studios), the series stars Chloe (Jessica Biel), a high-profile media executive, living the picturesque life with her attorney husband Adam (Corey Stoll) and teenage son Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan) by her side while her estranged sister Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) a recovering drug addict struggles to stay clean. Years of animosity and deep resentment between Nicky and Chloe are complicated by the revelation that Nicky is Ethan's biological mother. Each episode uncovers layers of their complex history, revealing hidden truths and family scandals.

Never straying too far from the source material, the first episode quickly establishes the tone as Chloe discovers Adam's lifeless body, covered in blood. The investigation, led by Detectives Nancy Guidry (Kim Dickens) and Matt Bowen (Bobby Naderi), soon turns to Chloe as the primary suspect. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Chloe's seemingly perfect marriage is far from ideal, plagued with several marital problems, while her charming and high-powered attorney husband is involved in questionable business dealings.

The series is highly ambitious, anchored by the shared trauma of the sisters, and featuring incredible acting by the ensemble cast that includes Gabriel Sloyer, Gloria Reuben, Paul Sparks, and Matthew Modine, as the revelations of each hidden secret by all the principal players are revealed. Dickens, playing a hard-nosed detective, is incredibly effective in the role, as is Lorraine Toussaint, who plays Chole's mentor, Catherine Lancaster, who brightens every scene she is in.

The series is immersive, weaving different characters with their own subplots into the classic whodunit, with shocking twists and turns as the motives of the players shift and the suspense escalates. As the series reaches its climax in the final two episodes, it bursts with surprising revelations that pay homage to the source material, culminating in a gripping conclusion.

All eight episodes of this fantastic series are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
