Apple TV+'s highly anticipated new thriller, The Last Frontier, is a gritty, engaging series starring Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Oppenheimer) as Frank Remnick, the lone U.S. marshal in charge of the quiet, rugged barrens of Alaska. Remnick's jurisdiction is turned upside down when a prison transport plane crashes in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates. Tasked with protecting the town he's vowed to keep safe, he begins to suspect the crash wasn't an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with far-reaching and devastating implications.
Created by Jon Bokenkamp (The Blacklist) and Richard D'Ovidio, the series premiered today with the first two of its eight episodes. New episodes will continue every Friday, leading up to the season finale on December 5.
Apple TV+ continues to excel with its original programming, and The Last Frontier delivers everything that makes the series fully engaging, delivering a thrilling blend of heart pounding action, drama, suspense, and intrigue. Remnick is not only hunting fugitives but is doing so against the stunning yet unforgivingly brutal Alaskan landscape. The sweeping cinematography of the lethal cold effectively captures the environmental dangers, raising the stakes and making them that much higher.
In addition to Clarke, the series features a star-studded cast of supporting players that includes Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, and Tait Blum, and Academy Award nominee and multi-Emmy Award winner Alfre Woodard.
The series will eventually peel back the layers to reveal a multi-layered, sinister plot entangled in a CIA conspiracy as Remnick grapples with trust and betrayal and a plethora of secrets. Clarke delivers a riveting performance to get to the truth. The quieter moments shared between Remnick and his family add the emotional depth to this thrilling, high-octane thriller.
