After nearly two decades, one of the most beloved family comedy franchises of the 2000s is making a return. Ice Cube and Nia Long are set to reunite for Are They Gone Yet?, the third installment in the Are We There Yet? franchise, now in early development after being acquired by Skydance Sports.

First reported by Deadline, the announcement marks a major nostalgic comeback for fans who first fell in love with Nick and Suzanne back in 2005’s Are We There Yet? and its 2007 follow-up Are We Done Yet? as fans watched Nick Persons evolve from reluctant bachelor to full fledged family man. Now, twenty years later, that journey is continuing in a whole new chapter.

“We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies,” Ice Cube shared in a statement. “Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership.”

That statement alone hints at where the new story could go with Nick now stepping into grandfather territory. Are They Gone Yet? looks ready to explore family life from a completely new perspective, while keeping the same hilarious energy that made the first two films fan favorites.

While plot details remain under wraps and no release date has been announced, the excitement is already building. If the original films taught us anything, it’s that when Nick Persons is behind the wheel, the ride is never smooth but it’s always unforgettable. And after 20 years, audiences are more than ready to buckle up again.
