What happens when you pair two of the biggest stars in Hollywood? You have a bonafide hit with genuine comedy and tons of action. "Heads of State" is the new action comedy starring Idris Elba (Luther) and WWE Champion turned professional actor John Cena, as two world leaders who must work together to thwart a global conspiracy. The film premiered exclusively on Prime Video on July 2, 2025, reuniting the pair who previously starred in "The Suicide Squad".

When The UK Prime Minister (Idris Elba) and US President (John Cena) have a public rivalry that risks their countries' alliance, they become targets of a powerful enemy, and they're forced to rely on each other as they go on a wild, multinational run. Together with Noel, a brilliant MI6 agent (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must find a way to thwart a conspiracy that threatens the free world.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller (Nobody), featuring a screenplay by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, the film is quite enjoyable. Despite the standard frenemies/buddy trope, the film expertly relies on the star power and charisma of both leads, showcasing their great comedic timing and brawn with great action sequences in this shoot 'em up, 80s style action flick. In addition to Elba, Cena, and Chopra Jonas, the film also stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Sarah Niles, and a scene-stealing Jack Quaid.

Following Viola Davis' "G20," which saw Davis in the titular role as commander in chief turned action hero tasked with saving the world, "Heads of State" will leave you grinning from ear to ear. It provides the perfect escapism as you reach for the popcorn.

Heads of State is streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
