HBO has officially renewed its breakout hit comedy Rooster, starring Emmy winner Steve Carell, for a highly anticipated second season. Following the critically acclaimed debut and strong audience response, with the first four episodes averaging 5.8M U.S. viewers, the series has quickly cemented itself as one of the network's standout originals.
The Warner Bros. Television produced series is set on a college campus and follows an author's (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive). Roooster has captivated viewers with its clever writing, offbeat humor, and Carell's magnetic performance as the flawed but endearing titular character navigating life's chaos with equal parts wit and vulnerability.
"It's been heartening to feel the audience embrace Rooster, as we did when we first saw Steve, Bill, and Matt bring this character to life", said Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series. "Along with our partners at WBTV and Doozer, we're looking forward to seeing what Ludlow's Spring Semester has in store for this incredible comedy ensemble."
Clancy Collins White, President of Creative Affairs at Warner Bros. Television, expressed excitement about the renewal, stating, "Rooster is a heartfelt and endearing series, and its renewal for a second season is well-deserved. Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses are true masters of their craft, infusing their signature heart and humor into the show with an incredible cast led by Steve Carell. We are thrilled to continue this creative journey with HBO and Doozer."
In addition to Carell, who also executive-produces the series, the supporting cast includes Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai.
Rooster premiered on March 8 with new episodes released weekly through its season finale on Sunday, May 10.
Credits for Rooster include co-showrunners Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. The series is executive produced by Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer for Doozer, Matt Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, and David Hyman.
