Did we need a remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle? Disney says yes. The 1992 psychological thriller, which starred Annabella Sciorra and Rebecca De Mornay, became a global hit and made many women think twice before inviting nannies into their homes. The new remake set to debut exclusively on Hulu on October 22, is a fresh update of the original film exploring themes of trauma, loss, and moral ambiguity. The film stars Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ahsoka), along with Raul Castillo, Martin Starr, Mileiah Vega, and Riki Lindhome.

In the original film, a Seattle woman poses as a nanny to seek revenge on one of her husband's victims after he commits suicide due to sexual allegations made by several of his patients.

Written by Micah Bloomberg and based on a screenplay by Amanda Silver, the film is directed by acclaimed Mexican director Michelle Garza Cervera, best known for Huesera: The Bone Woman. The new plot follows an upscale suburban Los Angeles mom who brings a new nanny, Polly Murphy, into her home, only to discover she is not the person she claims to be.

While the remake promises to retain key elements of the original film, director Garza Cervera teases that fans can expect several changes to enhance the updated plot as the backstories of the two women will be explored. Telling PEOPLE, "The studio gave me all the chances to recreate the whole thing and build a new story, new characters, with its own heart. I think that was the best way to honor the original, not try to redo it. We build a whole different kind of thriller. It's actually more of a slow burn."

Relying on the palpable chemistry between the two women, Garza Cervera promises that the remake is definitely one you don't want to miss.

"The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" premieres exclusively on Hulu on October 22.
