"Dandelion" is a poignant portrayal of a singer-songwriter, played by Kiki Layne, grappling with the challenges of her struggling music career and personal life.
Feeling worn down from performing at dead-end gigs and facing conflicts with her mother, portrayed by Melanie Nicholls-King, she reluctantly leaves her Cincinnati home, taking her to South Dakota for a music contest at a biker rally. There, she encounters Casey, played by Thomas Doherty. Casey is a talented guitarist seeking to reconnect with his former bandmates. Quickly forming a deep connection, Dandelion and Casey embark on a passionate romance that becomes the catalyst for an artistic and personal transformation.
The independent film, produced by IFC Films and directed by Niolce Riegel, unfolds a captivating exploration of themes such as reclaiming one's voice, the struggle for creative inspiration, and personal growth. Kiki Lane delivers a powerful and soul-stirring performance reminiscent of her compelling portrayal in "If Beale Street Could Talk." Through her character's journey, the film beautifully captures the emotional landscape of reclaiming one's imaginative power and redefining success on one's own terms.
"Dandelion" premieres in theaters on July 12, 2024.
