Who's ready for another police procedural drama? Make room for one more as Boston native Donnie Wahlberg returns to TV in his new series, "Boston Blue." A spinoff of CBS' long-running drama "Blue Bloods," which ended its 14-season run in December 2024, the series premieres exclusively on CBS tonight at 10 pm ET.
Wahlberg (who also serves as executive producer) reprises his role as NYPD detective Danny Reagan and takes a position with the Boston Police Department, paired with detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. The Silver family is comprised of Boston district attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Boston PD detective Lena Silver, police superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) and renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson). As Reagan settles into his new city, he also hopes to reconnect with his younger son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), who is beginning his own career in Boston.
In the series premiere titled "Faith and Family", Reagan and Silver team up to investigate a deadly fire at a tech company. As they dig deeper, they uncover a complex web of secrets involving facial recognition technology, family ties and a search for justice that brings the Silver and Reagan families closer together.

"Boston Blue" expands the universe with the familiarity of Reagan and fresh blood, introducing new characters and storylines that make it a compelling and exciting entry into the universe. Equally compelling is the representation and diversity in the new series. The Silvers are an interracial, interfaith family that is both refreshing and relatable. Viewers may recognize Wahlberg's co-star, Sonequa Martin-Green, as fan-favorite Sasha Williams from "The Walking Dead" and "Star Trek" alum who made history as the first Black woman to lead a "Star Trek" series. In addition to Martin-Green, seasoned veterans Gloria Reuben and Ernie Hudson anchor the Silver family with venerability.
During a CBS press event in October to debut the network's fall lineup, Wahlberg assured fans that the story of the Reagan family would continue. "Danny's story will continue the Reagan family's. You can't have Danny without Reagans," he stated. "There will be connective tissue to the old family, but we're also going to get to discover a new family, the Silvers, and carry on the tradition of telling their stories and still telling the Reagan stories."
Affirming his commitment to the franchise, Wahlberg reiterated, "No Blue Bloods fans will be disappointed. "We are really working on this universe in a way that I think the Blue Bloods viewers are going to be very happy."
"Boston Blue" premieres on Friday, Oct. 17 at 10 pm ET. All episodes are available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
