Marvel Studios has officially released the new teaser for "Avengers: Doomsday," following several leaks during early screenings of "Avatar: Fire and Ash." In the trailer, the original Captain America returns to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), looking as heroic as ever, but with a new addition to the Rogers family.

After months of speculation and denials, Chris Evans returned to the role that made him a household name in the first Captain America film: "The First Avenger", released in 2011, culminating in several sequels and appearances within the MCU.

The trailer shows a married Rogers riding his motorcycle, pulling up to his home, and embracing his baby, not before reflecting on his iconic Captain America suit. The teaser ends with the caption "Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday..."

Taking to social media, directors Joe and Anthony Russo wrote on Instagram, The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this…

Online speculation has reached a fever pitch in what capacity Evans will return. Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, is the new Captain America, having taken up the mantle and continuing the legacy Rogers left behind to happily reunite with his true love, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), in an alternate timeline in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame". However, with the existence of multiple timelines within the MCU, fans will have to wait another year to see whether Rogers will step back into his iconic role and take up the shield once again for the greater good.

In addition to Evans, many fan favorites will return for the new film. Notably, Robert Downey Jr., who starred as Tony Stark/Iron Man, will take on a new role, this time playing the iconic Marvel villain Victor von Doom.

"Avengers: Doomsday" is set to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
