The new German sci-fi thriller "Brick" premieres today on Netflix and follows the main couple, Tim and Olivia, who find their apartment building inexplicably surrounded by a mysterious brick wall overnight. It's a race against time as they must team up with their neighbors to figure out who or what created the wall before it's too late.
The suspenseful film stars Matthias Schweighöfer (Oppenheimer, Heart of Stone) and Ruby O. Fee (Army of Thieves) as Tim and Olivia, dealing with grief and loss. Olivia has had enough and is ready to walk out, only to realize she's trapped by their mysterious brick door, including windows and exterior doors. Compounding the mystery is the fact that the brick wall not only affects them, but also their neighbors. Tensions escalate when their water supply is cut off, and with no communication to the outside world, the situation becomes extremely claustrophobic.

Produced by Nocturna Productions and W&B Television, the film is created and written by Philip Koch (Tribes of Europa), very reminiscent of previous films "Escape Room" and "Cube," where the major characters find themselves trapped in small spaces with no way out. The film builds on the tension and suspense as the couple must work together with the eclectic group of neighbors, who each bring their own emotional and interpersonal conflicts, adding to the struggle to stay alive. As they work together to power their way through walls and floors of the apartments, they are met with even more obstacles that keep them closed in, bringing the tension to a fever pitch.
In addition to Schweighöfer and Fee, the cast includes Frederick Lau as Gael, Salber Lee Williams as Ana, Murathan Muslu as Yuri, Alexander Beyer as Friedman, Sira-Anna Faal as Lea, and Axel Werner as Oswalt, as well as Josef Berousek.
Could it possibly be that the wall exists to protect? The film does a terrific job of answering the question engaging the audience and effectively blending drama, the interpersonal relationships between the characters, and the sci-fi elements, delivering a surprising twist in the end.
Brick is available to stream now exclusively on Netflix
