Paramount+’s hit series Average Joe is back for Season 2, and according to stars Deon Cole and Michael Trucco, viewers should prepare for a much bigger, bolder and far more unpredictable ride. The stakes are bigger, the action is crazier and the adventure takes our favorite crew far beyond Pittsburgh.

When a new threat connected to the Russian mob puts Joe’s family in danger, Joe and his crew leave Pittsburgh behind and embark on a globe-spanning mission that takes them all the way to Cape Town, South Africa. Along the way, they uncover shocking secrets, encounter dangerous new enemies and find themselves pushed into situations where every decision could have life or death consequences.

Reel Perspectives Media recently caught up with Deon Cole, who returns as Joe, and Michael Trucco, who plays Touch, to talk about what fans can expect from the highly anticipated new season, and their answers make it clear that these so-called “average” guys are about to become anything but.

For Cole, Season 2 gives Joe an opportunity to evolve in ways even he didn't expect. “People are gonna see Joe’s character do shit that he didn’t even think he was capable of doing in Season 1", Cole teased, calling the new season a “treat” for fans.

Trucco echoed that sentiment, revealing that the action and intensity are both turned up considerably. While Season 1 introduced viewers to a group of ordinary, blue-collar friends who found themselves chasing money, Season 2 finds them much more confident and much more willing to take risks. “Season 2, we start to feel ourselves." That newfound confidence follows the group to another country and an entirely different side of the world, where they begin “mixing shit up from day one.”

But underneath all the action, Season 2 also gives Touch a much deeper emotional storyline. Without spoiling what happens, Trucco revealed that Touch is wrestling with a dark mindset and begins acting as if he's invincible.

“I approached it from the place of keeping a secret,” Trucco explained.

That secret forces Touch to confront some serious demons, especially when he realizes his actions aren't only putting himself at risk, they could potentially put his friends and his family in danger too.

For Trucco, playing that internal struggle was one of the most fascinating parts of the new season. Touch has to finally acknowledge how his choices affect the people closest to him, while also opening himself up to something he isn't necessarily used to: hope.

There may even be a little romance in Touch's future.

Meanwhile, Joe remains at the center of the chaos, with Cole returning to explore even more of what makes his character tick. For Cole, coming back was about giving fans what they wanted while getting the chance to dive deeper into Joe and his relationships.

“Just to give the fans what they want, man” Cole said, adding that filming in Cape Town was also a major incentive. “Plus to figure out this guy. Have everybody come together and try to figure out Joe and his friends.”

Cole summed up the new season perfectly with three words: “Unpredictableness, elevation, and all-out madness.”

The chemistry between Joe, Touch and the rest of the crew remains one of the show's biggest draws, but Season 2 is ready to push these characters even further outside their comfort zones. The characters who once seemed like ordinary guys are now facing extraordinary circumstances and doing things they never imagined they were capable of doing. And if Deon Cole and Michael Trucco are telling us anything, Average Joe Season 2 isn't interested in playing it safe.

Average Joe Season 2 premiered with two episodes on Wednesday, August 19, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through September 30, exclusively on Paramount+.
