Apparently, one season of Imperfect Women was nowhere near enough. Apple TV’s addictive thriller is officially returning for a second season, giving audiences another chance to dive into the secrets, scandals and complicated relationships that made the series such a deliciously messy watch.
Originally envisioned as a limited series, Imperfect Women struck a much bigger chord with viewers than anyone expected. Now, the story is getting a new chapter, with Emmy Award winner Kerry Washington returning as Eleanor and stepping back into the world of a woman whose seemingly perfect life is anything but.
The second season will take the story in a fresh direction, following Eleanor (Washington) who returns to her hometown roots in the affluent black enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, only to find that beneath it's idyllic surface, lie secrets and scandals that threaten to upend everything she thought she knew about her past.”
Washington will once again bring Eleanor to life while also executive producing the new season. The actress has become one of the driving forces behind the series, giving fans plenty of reason to get excited about what comes next.
The creative team is also getting a fresh boost. Creator Annie Weisman returns as co-showrunner alongside Justin Hillian, known for his work on The Chi and Snowfall. Rather than simply extending the original story, Season 2 will be built around an original idea, allowing the series to expand its world while putting Eleanor firmly at the center of the drama.
“We were thrilled to see how deeply these women and their stories resonated with audiences around the world,” Washington said. “I’m so excited to step back into Eleanor’s shoes.”
That excitement is certainly mutual. Apple TV’s Matt Cherniss echoed that sentiment, noting that the performances from Washington, Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mulgrew helped drive the first season while describing the new Eleanor-focused story as a natural next chapter for the series.
Elisabeth Moss will continue her involvement as an executive producer, while Moss and Lindsey McManus will executive produce through their Love & Squalor Pictures banner. Washington will executive produce through Simpson Street alongside Pilar Savone, with author Araminta Hall also serving as an executive producer.
With Eleanor heading back to Martha’s Vineyard, where picture-perfect lives can hide some very ugly secrets, there is no doubt that if Season 2 delivers even half the twists and messy drama that made viewers fall in love with Imperfect Women, Apple TV will have another addictive hit on its hands.
