USA Network’s hit crime drama Anna Pigeon is giving fans plenty of reasons to head into the wilderness, and Reel Perspectives recently caught up with stars Ronnie Rowe and Cooper Levy to talk about the characters, relationships, and secrets keeping viewers hooked.
Based on Nevada Barr’s New York Times bestselling novels, Anna Pigeon follows Anna Pigeon (Tracy Spiridakos), a former city dweller who becomes a park ranger after a devastating loss changes the course of her life. Now, Anna is making it her life's mission to investigate crimes that happen on the grounds of Glacier National Park in Montana while trying to outrun the trauma of her own past.
But Anna isn’t solving these cases alone. Ronnie Rowe, who plays FBI Agent Frederick Stanton, brings plenty of television and film experience to the role. Audiences may recognize him as Lt. R.A. Bryce from Star Trek: Discovery, as well as from The Porter, Reacher, The Madness, The Man from Toronto and the acclaimed film Black Cop.
For Rowe, it was Frederick’s complicated connection to Anna that immediately stood out. He was particularly intrigued by the similarities between the two characters and the idea that Frederick could almost serve as a guardian figure as he begins digging into Anna’s troubled past.

According to Rowe, Frederick sees something of himself in Anna, particularly the wounds they both carry. As he digs deeper into her past, their relationship becomes one of the series’ most intriguing dynamics, raising plenty of questions about just how much history — and possibly chemistry — exists between them.
Then there’s Cooper Levy, who plays Jesse Garland, Anna’s bartender, environmentalist and on-again, off-again love interest. Levy, a Toronto-based actor, has also appeared in Overcompensating, Murdoch Mysteries, Sheriff Country and the upcoming film Lice.
Jesse may initially seem like the easygoing bartender, but Levy says there is considerably more happening beneath the surface. Jesse has his own baggage and finds comfort in a slower, simpler life near Glacier National Park. His connection with Anna gives her something different — a sense of grounding, adventure and perhaps a chance to figure out what she really wants.
Fans may find themselves wondering exactly where Anna’s heart will ultimately if Levy joingly has anything to say about it.
Rowe and Levy also opened up about their experiences bringing these characters to life, Levy’s surprising casting journey from initially being cast as Manny to ultimately playing Jesse, and the hilarious chemistry and "antics" behind the scenes with Spiridakos and the rest of the cast.
If you’re not watching Anna Pigeon, now is the time to start. Between the breathtaking national park setting, mysterious crimes, complicated characters, unresolved trauma and a little romantic tension, this is one investigation you won’t want to miss.
