There are some shows you root for, and then there are shows like Abbott Elementary that feel like an absolute necessity. So the news that ABC has officially renewed the hit comedy for Season 6 is not only surprising but still incredibly satisfying.
Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary has become one of the rare modern sitcoms that balances laugh-out-loud comedy with genuine heart. Set inside an underfunded Philadelphia public school, the series has consistently found humor in chaos while never losing sight of the real life challenges teachers face every day.
From Janine’s relentless optimism to Gregory’s slow burn charm, Ava’s wild one-liners, and Barbara’s grounded wisdom, every character feels fully realized and endlessly watchable. It’s no wonder the show has racked up major Emmy Awards wins and built a loyal fanbase that shows up week after week.
After five seasons, the series manages to spotlight the struggles within the public school system while still delivering moments of joy, connection, and hope. Season 6 means more classroom antics, more awkwardly hilarious documentary-style interviews, and (hopefully) more development in the relationships fans are deeply invested in.
There’s still so much story left to tell, and with Season 6 on the way, this is one school year we’re definitely excited to attend.
Abbott Elementary airs Wednesdays on ABC and is available to stream the next day on Hulu.
